Chief Scouts' Silver Award for Cub Scouts - 07-11-2009
This year, in Oxfordshire, 210 Cub Scouts gained the Chief Scout’s Silver Award. This was the highest number ever. On Saturday 7th November 138 of those recipients attended a presentation ceremony in Wantage to receive their certificate from Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for Oxfordshire, Mr Tim Stevenson and Town Mayor for Wantage, Councillor Patrick O’Leary and a specially commissioned commemorative woggle presented by the Oxfordshire County Commissioner for Scouting, Mr Tarquin May .
The Chief Scout’s Silver Award is the highest award for the Cub Scout section. It is challenging and not all Cub Scouts manage to gain the Award. The Award is designed to help young people develop through a well balanced programme of fun, knowledge and skills. The activities they participate in are intended to be progressive, challenging and appropriate to the Cub Scouts abilities.
To achieve the award requires support both from family and from the Cub Scout leaders who have organised all the necessary activities week in and week out to enable them to gain this award. For no monetary reward these adults give up their time selflessly and provide some amazing events for the young people in their Pack. Next year we expect to see even more Cub Scouts gaining this accolade.
