Introducing Oxfordshire Scouting's LDO....... - 15-03-2010

Kae Meadham - Local Development Officer
Kae Meadham
has taken up the post on 1st March and will work together with the
County Commissioner and the Development Project Team to identify suitable
projects that focus on the development of Scouting to bring more Adventures to
more Young people across the area.
Kae has a lot of people to meet as she makes her way around the County; she brings a vast experience of Scouting and a wide range of skills that will help shape the future of Scouting in Oxfordshire. We took the opportunity to ask Kae to tell us a little about herself:
"I have been asked to write a bit about my experiences in Scouting. I am finding this task very hard to decide which ones are my favourite. So I thought it would be best to tell you a bit about myself.
I have been involved in Scouting now for the past 10 years. Myself, my twin sister and a group of girl friends started scouting back in 1996 as one of the first girls in Wallingford District at 1st Clifton Hampden and Burcot Sea Scouts. I went through scouts to ventures.
As a Sea Scout Troop we spent many summers on the river messing around in boats. During this time I achieved my 2* kayak. I used this to help teach kayaking to the younger Scouts.
One of my favourite memories that springs to mind would be the 4 day sponsored gig row from Oxford to London. The trip was to help raise money for our summer camp to France.
With a little persuasion, push from my Scout leader, Martin Bowen, I decided to go to university where I studied Watersports and Adventurous Activities Management. This led me away from Scouting for a while but I was always on hand for anything that came up.
I finally came back to Scouting in 2007 as a leader at 1st CHAB. During my time as leader I have helped run water sessions, camps and events.
The biggest achievement to date would gaining my wood badge. They have shown that I have a commitment to something I am passionate about. I’m very proud of myself for being award them even my dad didn’t get them back in the day! Sorry dad.
I am excited about my new role as local development officer. It is a great opportunity for the county as well as for me.
I feel I will bring in new ideas, hopefully bring in fresh new people into Scouting and also provide support to leaders as we all need a little at some point.
It will be a challenging few months as I get going, not just for myself but for everyone involved, so good luck to you all “be prepared” . Kae. "
