There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. If you do them properly you will get a badge which you can wear on your uniform.
Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes you will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack. This will mean you sleeping in a tent and doing loads of outdoor activities.
Scrap Heap Challenge 2011
There was a
fantastic turn out for this years’ Scrap Heap Challenge. 8 out of the 9
Districts were represented and we had 22 teams.
Our
wordsmith, as ever, was Pete and from the story he told the Cubs there were
models of all shapes and sizes. Some of them took the rocket ideas and showed
the leaders just how inventive they could be whilst others had listened very
carefully and constructed people who had taken their space helmets off and
suffered the consequences of their head growing and their feet shrinking. In
all a great morning was had by all and I’m sure those parents who were chosen
to take the Cubs home could not have believed how lucky they were to have the
models going with them!
Congratulations

Bonner Trophy
The County Cubs held their annual competition, The Bonner Trophy, on Saturday 9th October. 6 Districts entered and joined in with the Scouting bases.
All participants were expected to co-operate with one another and attempt such things as Shelter building, stretcher making, a quiz based on Dorchester and the points to be seen from Wittenham Clumps. Everyone had a great time.
The winners were Wallingfrd District for the second year in a row and those adults who had never been in the area before were really impressed with the wonderful scenery.
We must thank the Lord of the Manor for allowing us to use his lovely lawn as our base for the day. Together with Wallingford District for organising the venue.
County Chess Competition
Saturday, 30th January, saw six Districts enter teams for the annual chess competition. The Cubs were excellently behaved and followed the chess adjudicators’ instructions to the letter – just like every Cub Scout event that is organised.
The concentration was amazing. Parents were banished and leaders were locked away to make sure there were no distractions.
After two hours Wallingford District emerged as the winners with Oxford Spires as runners up.
Many thanks to all those who took part and especially to our judges.
Next year will see the event taking place in Cholsey HQ on Saturday 29th January.
