Youth Commissioner Visits Chipping Norton Young Leaders

The UK Youth Commissioner for The Scout Association, Hannah Kentish, visited Chipping Norton Scouts (aged 10-14) who were learning to drive cars for the first time.

Each of the Scouts had a half-hour lesson where they drove cars around a specially designed course. Hannah herself is learning to drive, so she joined one of the group’s Young Leaders (aged 14-18) in their first ever lesson.

During the drive, Hannah was told how being a Young Leader with the younger sections was both great fun, and allows you to develop new skills. She was impressed to see how much responsibility the Young Leaders are given, and hear all about the support they are offered as they start to run their own activities and events.

County Explorer Scout Activity Weekend

Nearly 100 Explorer Scouts from across Oxfordshire took part in a series of Jungle-themed challenges at the County Explorer Scout Activity Weekend, held at Horley Scout Campsite.

From completing bush tucker trials, to riding a giant inflatable tarantula, the weekend saw a mix of weird and wacky activities to test the 14-18 year olds. After an action packed day of archery, laser tag, and clay modelling, the evening entertainment began with some jungle-themed karaoke!

On Sunday, the Explorers took part in a scavenger hunt with a twist – the celebrity selfie challenge. Racing across the North Oxfordshire countryside to take photos with ‘celebrities’, the Explorers put their navigation skills and teamwork into action.
