Young Leaders

What is a Young Leader?

The Young Leaders Award is a support mechanism for 14-17 year olds who are volunteering with younger Scout sections (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs or Scouts). This could be used for the “Volunteering” section of a Duke of Edinburgh’s award and enables you to develop skills such as leadership, responsibility, trustworthiness, flexibility, adaptability, organisation, planning and communication as well as being lots of fun!

Don’t worry though, training is available to help you along the way – there are 11 training modules you can complete covering such things as communication, managing behaviour, how to run activities, leadership theory and first aid. If you are a Young Leader, you should complete the first module, Module A: Prepare for Take-Off, within three months of starting.

How do I get involved?

If you’re interested in becoming a Young Leader please contact the Assistant County Commissioner (Young Leaders).

How do I book a course?

Module A can also be run on an ad-hoc basis. So if there are a few of you at your Explorer Scout Unit, then please contact the Assistant County Commissioner (Young Leaders).
